Robert Louis Stevenson
The "Chemin Stevenson" (Stevenson Trail) indicated under the GR70* (*official hiking trail) is related to the hike that R.L. Stevenson made with his she-donkey "Modestine". They started their journey from Monastier sur Gazeille (Haute Loire département - 43) on September 1878.
Within twelve days, they crossed Le Velay, le Gévaudan, went accross le Goulet and the Mont Lozère and on to the Cévennes reaching Saint Jean du Gard (Gard département - 30).
A special website is dedicated to the GR70 and it was elaborated by Freddy Stiévenart. This website can be consulted at the following website address: http://www.gr70.fr.fm. L'association "Sur le Chemin Stevenson" a également mis en ligne un site, vous le trouverez sur http://www.chemin-stevenson.org. Ces deux sites sont très complémentaires.
The Beast of Gévaudan
The beast of G‚vaudan mystery starts back to the years 1764 to 1767.
In this "Haut G‚vaudan" area, 100 persons at least - ONLY women and children - were killed by a mysterious human-eating beast.
